In the Kisan Nyay rally held in Varanasi, Congress’ National General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at the BJP government at the Center and the state.
Beginning the speech with a recital of shlokas, Vadra chimed in a nearly half-hour speech against the government on the Lakhimpur incident, agricultural law, inflation and many other issues. She also criticised Modi and Yogi Adityanath for calling the protesting farmers ‘terrorists’ and ‘hooligans’.
At the very beginning of the speech, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “Today is the fourth day of Navratra. I am observing fast today. I want to start with Maa stuti…. As this is the time of Navratra, I thought of speaking of my heart with all of you.”
Priyanka said that “I am referring to what I saw in the past years. The Ubbha massacre took place in Sonbhadra in which 13 people were killed. I was very upset when I visited them. People told me they want justice and not compensation from the government. After that I went to Unnao where similar incident happened. Former BJP MLAs and people associated with BJP were involved in that case. The same thing happened in Lakhimpur. The son of the country’s Minister of State for Home crushed six farmers under his car. The government is defending the minister, whose son did such a thing.”
“The PM came to Uttar Pradesh to attend some celebratory events, but he did not have the time to meet the aggrieved families,” the Congress leader added.
CM Yogi insulted women
“The Prime Minister and the Chief Minister did not go to wipe the tears of those farmers. When I tried to go there, I was stopped. There was a police cordon everywhere. But no one came out to nab the culprit. The CM said abusive words to those who clean the cities, insulted women.” Priyanka taunted that the UP Police sent an invitation to the criminal to talk. Priyanka said that the Minister of State for Home should resign.
Priyanka lashed out at PM Modi
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that “Rs 100 petrol, Rs 90 diesel, 1000 cylinders are available. Unemployment is at its peak. The people are sad and distressed. You are going through these troubles, you are struggling while PM’s trillion friends are earning thousands of crores daily. Employment stopped during the Corona period but the government did not give relief.”
The country’s airports, railways were handed over to their friends. Modi Ji bought two aircraft for himself for Rs 16,000 crore last year. He sold the entire Air India of this country for just Rs 18,000 crore to his billionaire friends.”
“This country is not the property of the PM and his ministers. This country is yours. If you are not aware, you will not be able to save your own country, and yourself. You have made this country,” she added.
She further said that “electricity is not available, yet electricity bills are being received, has the PM seen this? The government has also imposed GST on agricultural commodities. Has the PM seen the problems of the farmers?”
Only the ruling class and their friends are safe in this country
Referring to the farmers’ movement, Priyanka said, “Farmers are protesting for over 300 days, during which more than 600 farmers have died. They’re protesting because they know that their income, land & crops would be go to billionaire friends of this government.”
“PM Modi called the protesting farmers ‘Andolanjivi’ & terrorists. Yogi Ji called them hooligans & tried to threaten them. The same minister (Ajay Kumar Misra) said that he would make the protesting farmers fall in line within 2 minutes,” she said.
Not only this, UP CM Yogi called the farmers rowdy. The Congress leader said that the freedom that the Amrit Mahotsav is being celebrated has been given to us by the farmers. The farmer’s sons have given. She said that neither Dalits are safe, nor minorities are safe, neither women are safe nor youth are safe in the government. Only “two types of people” were “safe in this country today – BJP leaders who are in power and their billionaire friends”.
Priyanka groped public sentiments
Priyanka said that “look in your inner self, ask yourself a question. Has there been progress in your life in these seven years? Has development come at your doorstep? If the answer to the questions is no, then come with me, struggle together and change this government.”
Exhorting people to fight for their rights, she said those “who call you andolankari (protesters) and terrorists, force them to give justice. We are the workers of the Congress. We are not scared of anyone. Put us in jail, beat us, but we will fight for justice.”
It’s not about elections, it’s about saving the country
Priyanka Gandhi said that the matter is now about elections. Now it’s time to save the country. She said that the country is being destroyed, recognize it. Why are you afraid to speak the truth? The time has come now. This country is your country. Who will save this country? You are the farmer, you are the soul of this country. Force those who call you agitators for justice.
