The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Wednesday has asked Netflix to stop streaming “Bombay Begums”. As per the child rights body, the series shows minor children engaging in casual sex and the same can have an adverse impact on children.
The notice issued to the OTT platform stated that the series can also lead to the exploitation of children at the hands of perpetrators. The commission said in its notice, “Netflix should take extra precaution while streaming any content in respect of the children or for the children and shall also refrain from getting into such things.”
“Therefore, you are directed to look into this matter and immediately stop streaming of this series and furnish a detailed action report within 24 hours, failing which the Commission will be constrained to initiate appropriate action pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 of the CPCR (Commission for Protection of Child Rights) Act, 2005,” the commission said.
Written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, Bombay Begums stars Pooja Bhatt, Shahana Goswami, Amruta Subhash, Plabita Borthakur and Aadhya Anand. The story delves into the lives of five women from different sections of society who all want different things in life.
