Chennai Super Kings led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni won 2021 Indian Premier League by beating Eoin Morgan led Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs. This is 4th IPL win for CSK, previously won IPL title in 2010, 2011 and 2018.
CSK which was first to be eliminated from the race of playoffs in last year tournament, made a comeback this year, performing superbly in Indian leg of the tournament and continuing their great run in UAE league too.
CSK had finished second in league stage and was first to enter finals after beating Delhi Capitals in qualifier 1. On the other hand, the runner up KKR made a great comeback in UAE leg, after dismal performance in Indian league and finished 4th in league stage. KKR had beaten RCB in eliminator and DC in qualifier 2 to enter into the finals.
In today’s finals, CSK was asked to bat first by KKR and finished at 192/3 with the help of superb knock of 86(59) from Faf du plessis aptly supported by Ruturaj Gaikwad at top and Robin Uthappa and Moin Ali in middle. Replying to CSK’s 192, KKR started dominantly with the help of openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer. However, middle order crumbled under pressure after Iyer got out, handing CSK its 4th title.
